Bulls Crowned 2024 Australia Cup Champions

In a thrilling Australia Cup final, the Bulls triumphed over Melbourne Victory, sealing a dramatic victory to become the 2024 Australia Cup Champions!

The stage was set for a monumental clash, with the Bulls stepping up as underdogs against A-League team Melbourne Victory. Despite the odds, the Bulls were ready for the challenge.

The first half was packed with end-to-end action, with the Bulls edging closer to a breakthrough. Goalkeeper Filip Kurto was sensational, delivering jaw-dropping saves that kept Victory at bay. Jake Hollman nearly broke the deadlock with a dazzling run into the box, taking on three defenders. Meanwhile, the defensive line, led by Matthew Jurman, remained rock-solid, thwarting numerous attacks from Victory. Though the first half ended goalless, the Bulls remained undeterred.

The second half saw more defensive brilliance, with Kurto continuing his heroic efforts between the posts. The Bulls absorbed Victory’s pressure, waiting patiently for their moment to strike. That opportunity came in the 59th minute when Jed Drew launched a stunning counterattack, charging down the field and leaving Victory’s defenders trailing. With a clever cutback to Marin Jakolis, the Bulls found their moment—Jakolis calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The Bulls held firm with a 1-0 lead, displaying immense defensive resolve and skilful play. As the clock ticked down, the Bulls remained unyielding, securing their second Australia Cup title in three years.

Filip Kurto’s spectacular performance earned him the prestigious Mark Viduka Medal. Reflecting on the victory, Filip Kurto remarked, “After 60 minutes, when we scored, it was a little bit different (to 2022). I had more impact on the score. So, for me, it tastes better.”
