Bulls Fall to Victory

The Bulls narrowly missed a win in their Australia Cup Final rematch against Melbourne Victory in Round 3 of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

On a bright Sunday afternoon at AAMI Park, the Bulls were keen to bounce back from their recent home loss to Newcastle Jets. This was their first away match of the season, and facing Melbourne Victory added intensity to the encounter.

In the first half, the Bulls focused on absorbing pressure from Victory, waiting patiently for counter-attacking opportunities. Jed Drew came close on several occasions, with one shot missing by mere centimetres. Goalkeeper Filip Kurto put on a solid display, making crucial saves to keep Victory at bay. Despite their efforts, the Bulls couldn’t break the deadlock, and the first half ended scoreless.

The second half began with a substitution, as Walter Scott replaced Ivan Vujica. The fresh legs paid off in the 51st minute when Marin Jakolis sent a well-placed cross to captain Valère Germain, who delivered a glancing header into the bottom corner to give the Bulls the lead.

However, the Bulls couldn’t hold on, as Victory were awarded a penalty in the 69th minute, which Daniel Arzani successfully converted.

Dean Bosnjak, Joshua Damevski, and Harrison Sawyer later came off the bench, replacing Jed Drew, Liam Rose, and Kealey Adamson.

Victory sealed their win with a long-range shot from Reno Piscopo, leaving the Bulls unable to equalise in the closing minutes. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Bulls at AAMI Park.
