Bulls Mark 100th A-League Match with a Win

The Bulls celebrated their 100th game in the A-Leagues with a win after finally defeating Melbourne City at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

It was another wet evening at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, with kick-off being delayed by 43 minutes due to thunderstorms in the area. However, the Bulls were determined to emerge victorious against Melbourne City for the first time after eight meetings. It was a slow start for the Bulls, opting to absorb the pressure that Melbourne City was putting on them and waiting for the perfect chance to strike. That perfect opportunity came in the form of Clayton Lewis delivering a beautiful free kick onto the head of Davila, whose glancing header was met with the palms of Jaime Young.

The Bulls continued to push forward, with another opportunity coming in the form of Jake Hollman in the 20th minute after he buried his header into the back of the net. Unfortunately, the goal was scratched off the scoreboard, as Hollman was just mere millimeters offside. This, however, did not deter the Bulls. They continued to fight throughout the first half and were determined to break the deadlock in the second.

The Bulls broke this deadlock just three minutes into the second half, with Raphael Borges Rodrigues and Bernardo Oliveira teaming up for the perfect goal. Raphael made a beautiful run into the box where his shot was deflected off Young and into the path of Bernardo, who skillfully tapped the ball into the back of the net.

Bernardo wasn’t done with his goal-scoring, securing a second in the 56th minute. Ulises Davila crafted a stunning pass towards Bernardo who was in the perfect position to curl it into the back of the net. Yianni Nicolaou, Jed Drew, and Kearyn Baccus all made appearances off the bench, replacing Kealey Adamson, Bernardo, and Valere Germain.

The Bulls held onto their lead throughout the remaining minutes, with goalkeeper Filip Kurto making some terrific saves, including one using a unique tactic of saving the ball with his face to deny Harry Politidis’ shot, to keep a clean sheet for the Bulls. The Bulls’ 100th match in the A-League concluded with a 2-0 victory over Melbourne City.
