Bulls thrash Phnom Penh to go top

Macarthur FC are edging closer towards the knockout stage of the AFC Cup after claiming a 5-0 win over Phnom Penh Crown FC on Thursday night.

The dominant win moves the Bulls to top spot in Group F and in pole position to advance to the second round having leapfrogged the Cambodian club on head-to-head.

The Bulls’ rout began in the 16th minute when they were gifted an opener after Ulises Davila was fouled in the box. From the spot, Valere Germain made no mistake as he rattled the back of the net with a calm penalty.

Shortly after, winger Raphael doubled the Bulls’ tally with composer finish at the back post, slotting Jed Drew’s cross.

Five minutes before the break, Davila made it 3-0 with an instinctive header.

Save from a powerful shot from Phnom Penh’s Nieto that cannoned off the upright, the hosts dictated the tempo of the second half but struggled to find a breakthrough. That was until defender Tomi Uskok rattled the back of the net with a powerful header off a corner in the 81st minute.

Striker Lachie Rose sealed the win with an excellent finish to make it 5-0 and put the Bulls on course for finals football in Asia.
