On a bitterly cold day in Beijing, the Bulls claimed a vital three points to lock in first place in AFC Champions League 2 Group E, capping off a strong group stage campaign.
Despite the freezing conditions, the Bulls arrived focused and ready for their final group match against Beijing Guoan FC. Head Coach Mile Sterjovski rolled out a refreshed line-up, bringing in Alexander Robinson, Will McKay, Kristian Popovic, Bernardo, Luke Vickery and Zane Helweh. Robinson made his first appearance of the season in goal and embraced the challenge from the opening whistle.
The Bulls settled into the match as the first half unfolded, adjusting to the icy pitch and waiting for the right moment to strike. Beijing threatened early, forcing Robinson into a sharp save that kept the scores level. The Bulls continued to build pressure but couldn’t find a breakthrough, heading into the break locked at 0–0.
The tone shifted quickly after half-time. Kristian Popovic pounced early, scoring his first goal for the club with a composed finish that gave the Bulls a well-deserved lead. Beijing responded almost instantly, equalising three minutes later to keep the contest tight.
In the 70th minute, the momentum swung again when Luke Vickery was dragged down inside the box, earning the Bulls a crucial penalty. Harrison Sawyer stepped up with confidence and smashed his spot-kick into the back of the net to restore the advantage.
From there, the Bulls held their composure, controlling the final stages and ensuring the result never slipped away. The 2–1 win secured top spot in Group E.
