Article by Macarthur Bulls Junior Reporter, Cameron BENZIE
My name is Cam, I’m 7 years old, I play soccer for Gunners FC, and I LOVE the Bulls. This was the BEST day ever because I got to be a junior reporter!
When we got to Campbelltown Sports Stadium, we went on a tour with my family. My little brother Alex loved the “clothes room” and seeing where Arthur sleeps the most 😂. I thought the tunnel where the players run out was so cool, and seeing the pitch up close made me want to play right there. We also visited the dressing rooms, the media room (I even got to talk on the microphone!), and the CEO box.
We were super lucky because we saw some players arriving and I got signatures — including my favourite player Harrison Sawyer. I wear number 28 for my team too, just like him!
Before the game, I got to interview fans coming into the stadium. One girl said the Bulls would win 3–2… and she was RIGHT! I also asked players doing signings about their favourite pre-game meals and their junior clubs, which was really cool.
Then the game started — and it was AWESOME!
The Bulls came out strong and Mitch Duke scored early to get us in front, and the crowd got really loud. The Jets are one of the top teams this season, so they fought back to make it 1–1. The game was super fast and both teams had lots of chances.
Then Duke helped again by setting up a great header for Duran to make it 2–1, which was my favourite goal! Just before half-time, the Jets scored again to make it 2–2 and everyone around me was like “wow this is a crazy game!”
In the second half, both teams kept attacking. Vickery hit the post which made everyone gasp, and I thought it might finish as a draw. But then Mitch Duke scored again with an amazing header late in the game to make it 3–2 to the Bulls!!! Everyone jumped up cheering and it was SO loud — the best atmosphere ever!
After the game, I got to meet Mitch Duke after his TV interview. He signed my ball and poster and took photos with me. I also got to meet other players like Vickery and Duran, which was great.
Then I went to the press conference and asked the coach, Mile, the first question. I asked if beating the top team means we can make the finals. He said he thinks we can make the finals, but it will be a tough run, especially with big games coming up like Perth away.
This was the best experience of my life. I had so much fun and I’ll never forget it.
