Macarthur Bulls have booked their place in the Hahn Australia Cup Quarter Finals after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Adelaide’s Metro Stars at T.K. Shutter Reserve.
The opening stages saw the home side threaten early, with Metro Stars testing Filip Kurto in just the 2nd minute. The Bulls’ keeper was up to the task, palming the shot away to keep the scores level.
The Bulls absorbed the early pressure and waited for the perfect moment to strike. It came in the 33rd minute when Adelaide-born Bernardo found himself in space and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to put the Bulls ahead.
Before the break, Bernardo and Harry Politidis both came close to doubling the lead, but the score remained 1-0 at half-time.
The second half began in style for the Bulls. Just a minute in, Harrison Sawyer whipped in a pinpoint cross for Chris Ikonomidis, who smashed home a thunderous strike to make it 2-0.
Metro Stars nearly pulled one back in the 59th minute, but Kurto collected the danger with ease. The Bulls saw out the remainder of the match with composure, securing both the win and a clean sheet.
