Bulls Fall Short Against Victory

A wet evening at Campbelltown Sports Stadium ended in heartbreak for the Bulls as their finals hopes slipped away in a narrow defeat to Melbourne Victory.

With everything on the line, the Bulls entered Friday night’s clash needing a win to stay in the finals race. However, they were on the back foot early, as Victory opened the scoring in just the fourth minute through Ryan Teague.

Despite a number of promising chances from Chris Ikonomidis and Jake Hollman, the Bulls couldn’t find the equaliser. Victory then doubled their lead in the 36th minute courtesy of Kasey Bos, leaving the home side with work to do. The Bulls kept pushing forward but were unable to convert, heading into the break trailing 2–0.

The second half saw changes for the Bulls, with Matthew Jurman and Liam Rose replacing Ivan Vujica and Frans Deli. The injection of fresh legs sparked some energy, and further substitutions — including the introduction of Harrison Sawyer and Dean Bosnjak — kept the pressure on.

Chris Ikonomidis got the Bulls on the scoresheet in the 67th minute, netting against his former club. The Bulls continued to push for an equaliser, with Sawyer narrowly missing the target on several occasions.

As time ticked away, the Bulls fought hard but couldn’t find the leveller. Their finals hopes faded with the final whistle, as Melbourne Victory held on for the win.

The Bulls return for their final home match of the 2024/25 A-League season on Saturday, 3 May at 7:35pm, facing local rivals Western Sydney Wanderers. We need YOU in the stands — secure your seat today!
