Football NSW today applauded the decision by Camden Council to waive ground hire costs and once again urged other councils to also do all they can to support football clubs.
In a fantastic move for community football in the area, Camden Council led by Mayor Clr Theresa Fedeli, decided to waive ground hire costs for sporting clubs and associations with seasonal bookings at Council managed sports grounds and facilities for the winter 2020 season.
“We know how difficult it has been for everyone during the pandemic including sporting clubs and associations who have had their seasons and finances compromised,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Council has been able to offer a $16.8 million COVID-19 support package to help the community through what are challenging times. I am glad to be able to assist local sporting clubs by waiving these fees as part of our COVID-19 support package and hope it makes a positive impact on local sport.
“I wish the clubs and all our local players the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”
Football NSW CEO Stuart Hodge highlighted his support for this great move delivered by Camden Council.
“Well done to Camden Council for pushing its valued support behind our code in what have been tough times for the sport.
“Decisions such as this from Camden Council go a very long way to assuring our clubs and players are well supported and will continue to provide a positive and significant benefit to the community.”
Macarthur Football Association General Manager Salv Carmusciano was delighted with the gesture offered by local council.
“It has certainly been a tough season for winter clubs.
“Whilst Football is very lucky to be operational during this pandemic, the restrictions are having a financial impact on the clubs.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have such passionate volunteers that drive local sport clubs, simply for the good of the community. This gesture highlights just how much Camden Council cares about its community.”
Various Macarthur Football Association clubs rejoiced in the Council’s decision to assist in ensuring they were looked after in what has been a testing period for the code.
“After the season we have had, the Mt Annan Mustangs community was so pleased to hear the news that Camden Council were not going to charge the winter sporting groups their annual hire fee.
“The Council’s generosity is greatly appreciated by our members.
“Every little bit helps when you are running a sporting group so thank you Camden Council,” said Gail Hohberg, Secretary of the Mt Annan Mustangs SC.
“The current pandemic has had a financial impact on clubs due to the shortened season as well as the restrictions on spectators attending games with the canteen being a main source of income for all clubs, profits have been well down.
“It’s great news to hear that Camden Council are waiving the winter hire fees for the grounds this season.
“The money saved will be put back into the club to pay for trophies and presentations for all the members.
“The Council have taken a financial burden away from the clubs which is greatly appreciated, it shows the Council supports all sports in our community,” said Steve Holzer, President of the Narellan Rangers SC.
