Harrison Sawyer: “We Need To Win”

The Bulls staged a miraculous comeback against the Newcastle Jets during the Annual Grassroots Round, thanks to one man—Harrison Sawyer. Ahead of the team’s trip to Brisbane, Sawyer sat down with the media to discuss their emotions after such a thrilling match and their mindset heading into the final stretch of the season.

Reflecting on the draw against the Jets, Sawyer acknowledged the team’s slow start but was proud of their ability to turn things around in the second half.

“It was a bit of a slow start. We wanted to come out of the gates firing, because every game left is a final for us.”

“We weren’t happy with the way we started, but the subs that came on brought a strong message to turn things around, and we did that and rescued a point.”

The match was a milestone for Sawyer, as he found the net twice—his first two goals in the A-League competition. It was a long time coming for the forward, who felt a weight lifted off his shoulders.

“A long time coming. I wish I could have done it sooner this season, and I expected myself to, but keen to show what I can do and score more goals at this level.”

“It was good to finally get the monkey off of the back. Once strikers get one, the floodgates open, so hopefully that’s the case.”

Sawyer echoed Sterjovski’s message about treating every game like a grand final. The Bulls are sticking to their game plan, fully aware of the significance of each match ahead.

“We prepare the same, but we know the importance of the matches. We are going into a lot of detail on how we approach each match and each opponent.”

“We need to win.”

The Bulls now turn their focus to Brisbane Roar, with their clash set for 7:35 pm on 4 April at Suncorp Stadium. For Sawyer, it’s a homecoming match, and he’s eager to secure the win against his hometown club.

“Brisbane is my hometown, so I’m excited to get back there. We want to put on a good show and get three points.”

“We’re going to go as hard as we can and look forward to the game on Friday night.”
