Macarthur FC welcomes NSW Labor’s commitment of $8 million over 4 years to boost football and education in South West Sydney.
On Thursday, NSW Labor announced the election commitment to fund Macarthur FC’s programs that help with health, socialisation, education as well as providing cost-of-living relief to families who are able to engage their children in the programs free of charge.
“We are a dedicated community club and this commitment by Chris Minns and NSW Labor will go a long way to making a difference in South West Sydney,” Macarthur FC chairman Gino Marra said. “Community is at the heart of everything we do at Macarthur FC and it gives me great pride to say that we have had more than 50,000 kids from our region participate in our Bulls in Schools program.”
The Bulls In Schools program is delivered by Macarthur Bulls community football coaches who have been trained and endorsed by the club to promote health and wellness of Years 3-6 children in schools through football. To date about 50,000 children have participated. The program is expected to help an additional 20,000 children per year.
“The Bulls In Schools program visits local schools, running training drills, education sessions with a core emphasis on health, physical activity and the benefits of an active lifestyle. Labor’s commitment will ensure more schoolkids can learn sport and life skills through football,” NSW Shadow Minister for Sport, Julia Finn, said.
The programs help with health, socialisation, education as well as providing cost-of-living relief to families who are able to engage their children in the programs free of charge.
“Macarthur Bulls FC are going from strength to strength – and this was particularly highlighted by their Australia Cup victory,” NSW Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, Greg Warren, said. “From players and coaches, to fans, there is an incredible amount of support for football right here in South West Sydney. The free Bulls in Schools program which will become even bigger thanks to Labor’s commitment.”
The Bulls in Schools program will work with the local football Associations, community groups and Schools to promote female participation through our targeted programs.
“As a keen footballer I understand the power of sport to be a connector within our community,” NSW Labor candidate for Liverpool, Charishma Kaliyanda, said. “I am proud that a Minns Labor Government will work with the Macarthur Bulls to ensure local schoolkids can learn the benefits of physical activity, inclusion and harmony, teamwork, communication, motor skills and hand-eye coordination.”
This commitment also supports a Multicultural Community Engagement Program which aims to boost Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities’ participation in football and boost football in South West Sydney. The more the CALD community of South West Sydney are part of the football family the more the Club can connect communities and diverse populations of the region.
“South West Sydney should not be left behind when it comes to school and community football programs,” NSW Member for Macquarie Fields, Anoulack Chanthivong, said.
NSW Labor candidate for Leppington, Nathan Hagarty, supports the commitment to South West Sydney’s flagship A-League club.
“As Bulls Member #118 I wanted to do my bit to get behind our local team. I am delighted NSW Labor is supporting the Bulls with this fantastic commitment,” he said.
NSW Labor candidate for Camden, Sally Quinnell, praised the program for the health and wellbeing benefits for students in South Wets Sydney.
“As a teacher, I have first hand experience of what local schools need when it comes to sports programs. NSW Labor working with the Bulls will make a difference,” she said
