The Bulls return to Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Friday, 6 February to take on Perth Glory in a crucial clash, with the squad looking to strengthen its position at the top of the ladder.
Ahead of the match, Harry Sawyer spoke to the media about how the team is shaping up for the big occasion.
It’s been a jam packed season for the Bulls, with the Asian Champions League Two and the A-League. Even with the tight schedule, Sawyer says it’s been a lot of fun playing for the Bulls this season.
“I’ve been having a decent season so far.”
“The club’s doing well here in Australia and in Asia. It’s really exciting times to be at the club and with the boys we have on the team. It’s a pleasure to play with all the experienced players that we have and some good young players as well.”
“It’s a good time to be at the club.”
Currently the club’s leading goalscorer with six goals this season, Sawyer has also become well known for his creative celebrations. Speaking about his trademark post-goal moments, he said:
“It’s just a bit of banter. Sometimes you can’t take yourself too seriously, so it’s just a bit of fun. But if we can score that many goals each week at home, we’ll be fine, we’ll be top of the league and we’ll win the league.”
“I’ll keep celebrating.”
When asked about how he comes up with the celebrations, Sawyer said he’s been inspired by the squad.
“The first couple, my missus told me, you should do this, and I did it.
“Then a few of the boys found it funny and got on board. The one in China, Callum Talbot, wanted to do the in-betweeners dance. Since then, it’s like every week, someone’s like, I’ll do this, do this.
I’ve got a few up my sleeve, I’m not having to think of them myself now.”
On Friday night, Campbelltown Sports Stadium will once again come alive as the Bulls host Perth Glory in an important clash in the race for a top-six spot. Sawyer also spoke about the team’s preparations and the importance of securing all three points.
“We want to be strong at home. Now that we’re sitting third or fourth, we want to try and bridge that gap between the teams that are in the top six and outside the six. As you’ve seen it’s such a tight league.”
“If we can beat Perth it’s going to put a little bit of distance between us. That’ll be good for us.”
