Sunday afternoon football ended in disappointment for the Bulls as they fell to local rivals Western Sydney Wanderers at CommBank Stadium.
With a change in formation, the Bulls started strong and full of intent. The first half saw several promising chances, with Harrison Sawyer and Marin Jakoliš leading the attack. Making his A-League debut, Kevin Boli impressed both in defence and in attack, narrowly missing the mark on two set-pieces.
It was an end-to-end battle, with Filip Kurto pulling off brilliant saves to deny the Wanderers. The Bulls pressed relentlessly for the opener, with Sawyer finding creative ways to break through the opposition’s defence. Luke Brattan and Jake Hollman dominated the midfield, ensuring the Wanderers struggled to gain any momentum.
Despite their attacking efforts, the Bulls entered the break locked at 0-0.
They continued their push after halftime, and their persistence paid off when a dangerous delivery from Jakoliš resulted in an own goal from the Wanderers. The lead, however, was short-lived, as Nicolas Milanović’s offside goal was overturned by VAR, bringing the score level.
The Wanderers then took the lead in the 77th minute, but the Bulls were quick to respond. Saif-Eddine Khaoui made his A-League debut off the bench, while Peter Makrillos, Ivan Vujica, and Chris Ikonomidis injected fresh energy into the squad.
Despite their best efforts, the Bulls were unable to capitalise on their chances, ultimately falling to a 2-1 defeat.
