Caceres Scores a Screamer

Article by Macarthur Bulls Junior Reporter, Nate BARRON

I was fortunate to be asked to be the junior reporter for Macarthur’s match against Central Coast. My afternoon started with a tour of the stadium before the gates opened. We were able to see the teams changing room, camera positions and the chairman’s box. It was amazing to see how many people are needed to make the game day experience so great.

A massive storm blew over Campbelltown Stadium as the gates opened causing a 25 minute delay to kick off. When the teams came out for kick off they were given a guard of honour by members of local grassroots teams for grassroots round.

The first half began and the match was fairly even with both teams having opportunities to score. A tough penalty in the 37th minute against Caceres lead to the opening goal from McCalmont. This goal fired up the Bulls who went on the attack to get a goal back before half time. Vickery, Bosnjak and Duran having chances to equalise but unfortunately unable to convert.

At half time over twenty clubs from the Macarthur, Liverpool and Southern Highlands football associations participated in the annual march. It was great to see the support for all of these clubs and I wish them well for their upcoming seasons.

The second half started much like the first with the teams evenly matched. Brandtman grabbed the first goal of the half, doubling the mariners advantage. The Bulls went back on the attack with Caceras scoring a thunderbolt from outside the box to get the score back to 2-1.

Red cards to Uskok and Robinson saw the game over as a contest. The Bulls fought hard to get a goal but the lack of numbers hurt the team and the Mariners got a third through Blair in the final minutes.

It was a disappointing result but we’ll all be behind the Bulls for their next game against Victory.
